11CH 2014-2015

Welcome to 11CH  formerly 10CH! There are now 8 students, Andrew and James have joined us from 10GL and Veni from 10 BB. Deresha and William have moved to 11FS. We have new Teaching Assistants -   Kim, Suki and Sunder; Tereseta also  joins us as our midday meals supervisor.

We spent the first week getting to know each other through lots of different games and activities and started our new reading scheme called Dockside as a class. We have begun sharing our likes and dislikes through our topic focus for this half term ‘Food.’

Our first week of teaching has also been very busy. In English the class have started their work on Theme Parks working towards their English Functional Skills qualification. They are also continuing their coursework for Maths and Science. In addition to this we have two Option afternoons where students choose which accredited courses to follow  - Media, Music, Food Technology and Childcare. This is also a continuation of the work begun last year. The Key stage 4 curriculum also includes ICT and PE for all students.

The structure of the school day has changed slightly this year so a lesson is taught each day by one of our specialist teachers or Higher Level Teaching Assistants. This session will therefore include Extra Maths or English; Dance or Drama, Sensory Play and Exercise. The change also means that at lunchtime the staff team is able to sit with our class whilst they enjoy their lunch, this means that we can encourage healthy eating and correct etiquette at the dining table!

We are really pleased that we have swimming again on Wednesdays at Downham Leisure Centre. Brad has made a brilliant start and at present is our best swimmer!!

James and Andrew have the opportunity to attend Lewisham youth Project for one day a week for this term.

James Q, George and James N have already helped Andy build a bench!

We have our usual Friday options which this term are Animal Antics; Culture Club; Spinning and Film Club.

Watch this space for more news of class activities!
