Humanities subjects including History, Geography and Citizenship are taught to all pupils at Drumbeat School. These subjects are taught in a variety of ways – through dance, drama, art and also through more formal activities.
Geography aims to broaden pupils’ horizons and develop a sense of wonder by giving pupils a sense of place within the world and an opportunity to interact with and experience environments. At Drumbeat pupils are provided with a wide range of concrete experiences including sensory activities, opportunities for Learning Outside the Classroom and fieldwork.
History awakens pupils’ curiosity and encourages pupils to start asking questions. It also engages pupils with stories and sources. The teaching of history can also provide a wide range of experiences including visits from different experts, handling artefacts and opportunities for Learning Outside the Classroom.
